A Few of My Favorite Things

Welcome to my blog!
I love books. I love the smell of them, the way they feel in your hands when you’re thumbing through the pages, the way a great character can make you fall in love, and the way a special story can reawaken emotions that have been either dormant or unknown. I’m sure you know exactly what I mean, otherwise you wouldn’t be here.
For this first blog, I wanted to introduce myself and my and some of my favorites. I encourage you to share your favorites with me as well. I’m always looking for the next great read. Now, on to the list:
  1. Favorite book: Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb: This fantasy book, the first in the Farseer Trilogy, was first published in the mid-90s, but I didn’t read it until 2007. I found it on accident. It was a free book available on my new 1st‑generation Kindle. It’s interesting that I fell so hard for this book and it’s characters (my dog is named after the main character FitzChivalry Farseer), when it is not the genre I read most. I enjoy fantasy, but reading a well-written fantasy book is a commitment (e.g. Brandon Sanderson). Sometimes I just need something I can dive into. I probably love this book so much because it helped me through a very difficult time in my life.
  2. Favorite genre: I enjoy all genres, but the one that I read most is crime or mystery. I love to find a series with a character I love, so I can follow his or her whole life story. Some of my favorite characters in this genre are Myron Bolitar by Harlan Coben, Cormoran Strike by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling), D.D. Warren by Lisa Gardner, and the list goes on.
  3. Favorite author: This one is impossible to pick just one. Harlen Coben, Robin Hobb, Mitch Albom, Michael Connelly, Lisa Gardner, Carla Laureano, and a newly found favorite Kristin Hannah.
For me, books are lifechanging. I heard somewhere that you can tell a lot about a person by looking at the books they have on their shelf. If you’re like me, you have an array of many types of books, some still unread (well, maybe more than some) and some you’ve read more times than you can remember. What does that say about us?
Now it’s your turn. What’s your favorite book? What’s your favorite genre? Who’s your favorite author?
